Death toll rises to 20 in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi building collapse, rescue operations still underway

The death toll in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi building collapse has risen to 20, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) informed on Tuesday.

Satya Narayan Pradhan, DG NDRF informed about the present situation on the ground, in a tweet he said, “#BhiwandiBuildingCollapse update8, @NDRFHQ on site, 40 persons a/cted for, 20 dead extracted, 20 rescued live, Ops continue, Difficult conditions, Loose hanging slabs/debris, Team @5Ndrf committed to complete ops .

The incident happened at around 3:40 am on Monday, when a three-storey building collapsed in the Patel Compound area of Bhiwandi near Mumbai. 20 people have been rescued and several are still trapped under the rubble.

Teams of the National Disaster Response Force and personnel of the Thane Disaster Response Force are leading the rescue operation.

President Kovind, PM Modi had expressed anguish over the building collapse and condoled the loss of lives in the incident.
