CJI Ranjan Gogoi forms new Ayodhya bench

Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi on Friday reconstituted the five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court that will hear the Ayodhya-Ram Janmabhoomi case.

Justice Abdul Nazeer and Justice Ashok Bhushan have been added today to the bench. The bench also has Justices SA Bobde and DY Chandrachud.

The bench led by Chief Justice will on January 29 decide on a schedule and the frequency of hearings in the case.

Justice U U Lalit in the last hearing had recused himself from the bench after objections were raised by Muslim parties as Justice Lalit had represented former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh as a lawyer in a Babri Masjid case.

The Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid case has been pending in the top court for six decades.
