India reports 2301 COVID-19 cases, death toll touches 56

The number of confirmed cases in India have risen to 2301 with 56 fatalities. There are now 2088 active cases and 157 have been cured/discharged, Heath Ministry said on Friday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today appealed all Indians to switch off all the lights of their houses on April 5 at 9pm for 9 minutes, and just light a candle, lamps or mobile’s flashlight, to mark the country’s fight against COVID-19.

He said people should maintain social distancing and not form groups while lighting up lamps or candles.

More than one million people have been infected by COVID-19 worldwide and over 52000 have lost their lives.
