The Congress will hold protests on Friday across the country over the ongoing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) row.
Senior Congress leaders will stage a protest outside the CBI headquarters in the national capital, while state leaders will protest in front of the CBI offices in their respective states. They are demanding an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reinstatement of CBI director Alok Verma who was sent on leave.
The centre divested the CBI Director Alok Verma and special director Rakesh Asthana respectively from their roles and sent both of them on leave.
Verma and Asthana, who were at loggerheads on numerous issues and had accused each other of blocking several important cases.
The Government also transferred several CBI officials and appointed M Nageswar Rao as the interim chief of the agency. Alok Verma on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court challenging the government’s decision after which the apex court agreed to hear his plea on Friday.
