A BJP MLA and four security personnel were killed on Tuesday after Maoists attacked a convoy in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada.
The BJP leader was identified as Bhima Mandavi, a lawmaker from Dantewada.
According to the police, Maoists set off a blast through an improvised explosive device (IED) that was buried on the road when the Dantewada legislator Bhima Mandavi’s convoy was passing through the area.
Security forces were rushed to the area.
The incident took place just two days before the first phase of voting for the Lok Sabha elections.
