At least six people were killed and several have gone missing after the Tiware dam in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri was breached late on Tuesday and washed away 12 houses in the nearby village, officials said.
According to the reports, the bodies of the two have been recovered and search to locate missing people is still underway.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were rushed to the spot to carry out search and rescue operations. Officials of the civil administration, police and volunteers are also working at the site.
Heavy rains have brought large parts of the state and its capital Mumbai to a standstill as the city received a record-breaking volume of rainfall in the past 24 hours.
More than 25 people were killed across the state in separate rain-related incidents.
