Seventeen people have been booked for allegedly raping a 35-years-old woman in Jharkhand’s Dumka district after holding her husband hostage, police officials said on Wednesday.
According to reports, the woman and her husband were intercepted by the accused on Tuesday night, when they were returning from a weekly market. Accused took the woman’s husband hostage before committing the crime.
A medical examination of the woman, a mother of five, has been conducted. The National Commission of Women has taken cognizance of the matter. Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to the Director General of Police, Jharkhand seeking time-bound investigation in the matter.
