US President Donald Trump on Wednesday thanked India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allowing the export of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) – an anti-malarial drug believed effective for treating coronavirus.
In a tweet, Trump praised PM Modi for his strong leadership and said that India’s help during this crisis will not be forgotten.
“Extraordinary times require even closer cooperation between friends. Thank you, India and the Indian people, for the decision on HCQ. Will not be forgotten! Thank you, Prime Minister, @NarendraModi for your strong leadership in helping not just India, but humanity, in this fight!” Trump tweeted.
India has partially lifted a ban on export of hydroxychloroquine. The government said it will supply essential drugs to the countries that are badly affected by the pandemic.
President Trump had earlier hinted of ‘retaliation’ if India does not clear the export of Hydroxychloroquine.
Last week, President Trump spoke to PM Modi over the phone and requested him to give serious consideration to releasing the hold it put on a US order for hydroxychloroquine.
