Two Trinamool Congress (TMC), one from CPI(M) and over 50 councillors from West Bengal joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday.
“Eminent personalities #JoinBJP at BJP HQ in New Delhi,” BJP party said in a tweet.
“3 MLAs and more than 50 Councillors from West Bengal join BJP,” BJP party added
BJP National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya said, “Three MLAs and over 50 Councillors are joining BJP today. Such joinings will continue in future also.”
“Like the elections were held in seven phases in West Bengal, joinings in BJP will also happen in seven phases. Today was just the first phase,” Vijayvargiya added.
TMC MLAs Subhranshu Roy, Tusharkanti Bhattacharjee and CPM MLA Devendra Roy joined BJP. Subhranshu is the son of BJP leader Mukul Roy and was suspended by TMC recently.
This came weeks after PM Modi said that 40 MLAs from TMC party were in contact with the BJP and soon join.
