All children rescued, accused killed

The wife of an Uttar Pradesh man, who held over 20 children hostage, has died of injuries after being thrashed by neighbours, sources said.

The woman succumbed to her injuries on Friday morning after beaten up by locals. She was admitted to a hospital in critical condition.

On Thursday, over 20 children were taken hostage by a murder accused in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad.

He invited children to his daughter’s birthday party and took them hostage.

When the children did not return to their respective houses, some of his neighbours knocked at his door but once they realized that the children had been taken hostage, the police were called.

The accused fired from inside the house on those who tried to speak to him, the police said, adding that a man and two policemen suffered a bullet injury.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath monitored the situation in Farrukhabad.

Batham was a murder accused and he seemed to be mentally unstable, police said.

After 9-hour long standoff, the accused was killed in an encounter, and the police rescued all 23 children.
