Two dead in gas leakage at IFFCO plant in UP’s Phulpur

Two persons have died on Wednesday in a gas leakage at Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) plant in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj.

According to reports the incident took place after ammonia gas started leaking from a pipe in Urea-1 plant of IFFCO Phulpur on Tuesday night. Plant unit has been closed and gas leakage has stopped now.

16 other employees have also fallen ill and are undergoing treatment.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences on the loss of lives in the incident, in a tweet he said, “Saddened by the incident of the gas leak at a plant at Phulpur in Prayagraj. The situation is completely under control due to the efforts of the local administration. All the injured are being properly treated at the local hospital. My condolences to the families of those who died in the accident.”

Meanwhile, IFFCO has set up a technical enquiry committee, headed by an executive director rank officer to find out the cause of the incident.
