TMC gives EC ‘Proof’ in support of claim that BJP workers damaged Vidyasagar statue

The Trinamool Congress on Wednesday released a video to claim that BJP supporters damaged the statue of renowned Bengal reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar during violence in Kolkata and submitted proof to the Election commission (EC)

TMC leader Derek O’Brien, speaking at what he called the “saddest press conference we have held”, said: “Amit Shah is a liar.

The reaction from the TMC came close on the heels of BJP president Amit Shah accusing the TMC party of indulging in violence in the state and alleged that the poll panel has been a “mute spectator”.

Derek O Brien said, “the students were on a democratic protest with black placards. Amit Shah goons from outside Bengal orchestrated the violence.”

“The BJP is trying to justify this act. They are giving excuses like the gate was locked. The videos established the truth,” Derek added.

“We are trying to obtain and authenticate audio of slogans like ‘Vidyasagar finished, where is the Josh’ raised during the violence,” Derek said.

He also alleged that the BJP candidates are entering polling booths, accompanied by Central forces and coercing people to vote for the BJP.

Clashes erupted between BJP and TMC supporters on Tuesday on the streets of Kolkata during a massive road show by Amit Shah, who escaped unhurt.
