Fifteen people were killed after a wall collapsed and damaged three houses in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district on Monday morning amid heavy rain.
The compound wall collapsed at Nadur in Mettupalayam.
Rescue operations are underway to help people trapped in. So far nine bodies have been recovered, sources said.
Rains lashed many parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Sunday and is likely to continue to hammer parts of the state.
With several areas waterlogged, schools and colleges will remain shut today at several places in Tamil Nadu.
In view of heavy rainfall forecast, examinations of Anna University and Madras University have been postponed.
The Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services said it was fully prepared to deal with any flood-related issues. The department said it has adequate manpower, equipment and vehicles to render assistance and help rescue and evacuate who are affected by floods.
