The Supreme Court on Tuesday supported an order passed by Allahabad High Court directing the demolition of a 40-storey twin residential tower in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
There are more than 910 flats in these twin 40 storey residential towers.
The decision to demolish the tower was given due to violation of construction bye-laws. These flats were built by real estate firm Supertech.
A two-member bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and MR Shah, while quashing the illegal construction of the towers, observed, “The construction was the result of collusion between the Noida Authority and the officials of Supertech. That is why the order of destruction has been given.
The people who had bought houses in these Twin Towers projects have also been ordered to be reimbursed with 12 per cent interest in a time period of two months.
The demolition will be overlooked by the Central Building Research Institute to ensure the safe demolition of these buildings.
