Sudhir Bhargava on Tuesday took oath as the chief information commissioner in the Central Information Commission (CIC), a statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan said.
President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office to Sudhir Bhargava at a ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan, it said.
Bhargava was working as the Information Commissioner in the CIC.
Last month, the government appointed Bhargava as the new Chief Information Commissioner along with four new Information Commissioners to the CIC.
Under the Right to Information Act, the CIC is the highest appeal body.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley were also present at the ceremony.
