US President Donald Trump will arrive in India on Monday afternoon. The two-day state visit came just months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Howdy, Modi!” event in Texas last year.
President Trump will arrive in Ahmedabad at around noon today along with First Lady Melania Trump and high-level delegation, including his daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner.
President Trump will visit Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram and take part in a massive roadshow with PM Modi. The two leaders will address a mega event at cricket stadium where over one lakh people are expected to gather for the ‘Namaste Trump’ cultural extravaganza.
Trump and his team will later leave for Agra to see the iconic Taj Mahal.
President Trump on Sunday said that he is looking forward to being with the people of India.
“Look so forward to being with my great friends in INDIA!,” Trump remarked while retweeting a morphed clip from the blockbuster movie Baahubali.
In a short video, which is shared by unverified Twitter account, Trump’s’ face was superimposed on the movie-character Baahubali.
PM Modi had earlier tweeted, saying Trump’s visit an honour. “India looks forward to welcoming @POTUS @realDonaldTrump. It is an honour he will be with us tomorrow, starting with the historic programme in Ahmedabad,” he said.
Hours before arriving in India, Ivanka Trump recalled her last visit at the Global Entrepreneurial Summit in Hyderabad where she had shared the stage with PM Modi.
“Two years after joining @narendramodi at the Global Entrepreneurial Summit in Hyderabad, I am honored to return to India with @POTUS and @FLOTUS to celebrate that the grand friendship between the world’s two largest democracies has never been stronger!” Ivanka tweeted.
