Poonam Sinha, the wife of actor turned politician Shatrughan Sinha joined the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Tuesday.
She was welcomed by SP leader Dimple Yadav.
“Poonam Sinha has joined the Samajwadi Party in presence of SP leader Dimple Yadav in Lucknow,” Samajwadi Party tweeted.
Poonam Sinha is set to contest from Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow against BJP’s Home Minister Rajnath Singh, said party sources.
Last week, Shatrughan Sinha had joined the Congress after quitting the BJP. He will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Bihar’s Patna Sahib on a Congress ticket.
Rajnath Singh today filed his nomination papers from Lucknow.
Lucknow will go to polls on May 6 and the counting of votes will take place on May 23.
