Schools, Junior Colleges closed today as Mumbai gears up for heavy rainfall

All schools and junior colleges were closed on Thursday in Mumbai, Thane and the Konkan region after the IMD forecast heavy rainfall for the city.

Maharashtra Minister of School Education Ashish Shelar had announced that all schools and junior colleges in Thane, Konkan and Mumbai region will remain closed as the weather department forecast a red alert in these regions.

“In view of heavy rainfall forecasts. As a precautionary measure, holiday is declared for all schools & junior colleges in Mumbai, Thane, Konkan region for today 19 Sep 2019. District collectors in other parts of Maharashtra to decide, based on local conditions,” Ashish Shelar said in a tweet. 

Mumbai’s suburbs received heavy rain on Wednesday night. Intense spell occurred in suburbs. Versova recorded 50 mm rain within 3 hours, KS Hosalikar, Deputy Director General of Meteorology, IMD, Mumbai said.

“Realised rainfall over Mumbai and around in last 24 hrs, indicate heavy falls at few places in suburbs, Thane and NM,” he added.
