The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear on April 15 a plea challenging the Election Commission’s (EC)s ban on the release of the movie ‘PM Narendra Modi’ a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The producers of the movie have moved the top court against the EC’s order to stop the release of the movie.
The apex court said it would hear the plea filed by producers of the biopic.
The biopic was scheduled to release on April 11, but EC on Wednesday had banned the release of the movie, saying any such film that sub-served purpose of any political party should not be displayed in the electronic media.
The top Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea seeking a stay on the release of the movie, saying that it is for the EC to decide whether the release of the movie on the date of elections can tilt the balance in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as alleged by the opposition Congress.
