SC seeks status report from 4 states over COVID-19 situation

The Supreme Court on Monday expressed concern over the spike of COVID-19 cases in Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Assam and sought status reports from the states on the steps taken by them in regards to the current COVID-19 situation.

A bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan pulled up Gujarat and Delhi for the worsening COVID-19 situation.

The Top Court has asked all the states to file status reports on steps they have taken, steps intended to be taken and help needed from Centre to combat COVID-19 situation.

“We are hearing of a huge spike in the current month. We want a latest status report from all states. Worse things may happen in December if states aren’t well prepared,” the top court said.

Coronavirus cases in several states have been increasing. Delhi has crossed 5.29 lakh-mark. Maharashtra continues to be the state with the highest number of coronavirus cases with over 17.8 lakh cases. Gujarat has seen a recent spike in its virus cases.

Fresh curbs have come into place to break the chain of coronavirus cases. Rajasthan and Gujarat have imposed a night curfew in some of their cities to bring the Covid-19 situation under control.
