The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted bail to four convicts in connection with the 2002 Naroda Patiya riots case.
“The conviction order is debatable,” the Supreme Court said on Tuesday while granting bail to convicts Umeshbhai Bharwad, Rajkumar, Harshad and Prakashbhai Rathod.
At least 97 Muslims were killed in Ahmedabad’s Naroda Patiya area on February 28, 2002, when a mob thronged in the locality and murdered them.
The incident was one of the worst cases of mob violence during the Gujarat riots.
In the Naroda Patiya case, the high court had convicted Babu Bajrangi, and acquitted 17 others, among them former BJP minister Maya Kodnani.
