Prime Minister Modi gets emotional as Rajya Sabha bids farewell to four members

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday got emotional as he bid farewell to four Rajya Sabha members including Ghulam Nabi Azad.

“We bid farewell to Rajya Sabha MPs who have played a vital role in the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha. I recall my numerous interactions with Shri Nazir Ahmed Laway and Shri Mohammad Fayaz. Their passion towards Jammu and Kashmir’s progress is noteworthy,” PM Modi said in Rajya Sabha.

PM Modi further said, “About Shri Shamsher Singh Manhas….where do I begin. I have worked with him for years. We have travelled on scooters together while working to strengthen our Party. His attendance record in the House is admirable. He was MP when key decisions were made relating to JK.”

“Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad has distinguished himself in Parliament. He not only worries about his Party but also had similar passion towards the smooth running of the House and towards India’s development,” said PM Modi.

PM further said, “Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad has set very high standards as MP and Opposition leader. His work will inspire generations of MPs to come.”

“I have known Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad for years. We were Chief Ministers together. We had interacted even before I became CM, when Azad Sahab was very much in active politics. He has a passion not many know about – gardening,” Modi added.

“I will never forget Shri Azad’s efforts and Shri Pranab Mukherjee’s efforts when people from Gujarat were stuck in Kashmir due to a terror attack. Ghulam Nabi Ji was constantly following up, he sounded as concerned as if those stuck were his own family members,” said Modi.

“Posts come, high office comes, power comes and how to handle these, one must learn from Ghulam Nabi Azad Ji. I would consider him a true friend,” PM Modi added.
