Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tributes to Dr B R Ambedkar on his death anniversary, saying he gave the country a unique gift in the form of the Constitution.
“Tributes to Babasaheb who dedicated his life for social justice, on his Mahaparinirvana day. He gave unique gift to the country in the form of constitution, which is the cornerstone of our democracy. A grateful nation will always be indebted to him,” PM Modi tweeted.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu also paid tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvan Diwas.
“I pay my humble tributes and respects to the architect of the Constitution Dr. BR Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvan Diwas today.,” Naidu said.
“Ambedkar was a champion of democracy. He was a staunch patriot, a nationalist and a humanist to whom upliftment of poor and downtrodden was an essential precondition to development. He strongly advocated dignity, unity, and freedom for all citizens, as enshrined in the Constitution and relentlessly campaigned for the rights of the marginalized,” Naidu added.
“We must draw inspiration from the vision and wisdom of Dr. BR Ambedkar. The tributes we pay him today will be meaningful only if we follow his ideals and uphold the values and ethics he propounded, in public life,” the Vice President said.
