New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met India’s 2026 Commonwealth Games medal winners at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, congratulating them for their outstanding performances in Glasgow and encouraging them to continue inspiring the nation through sports.
During the interaction, the Prime Minister praised the athletes for their hard work, discipline and determination, saying that their achievements had made every Indian proud. India concluded its campaign at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026 with 39 medals, finishing fourth in the overall medal standings, one of its strongest performances in recent editions of the Games.
Sharing a video of the interaction on social media, PM Modi gave the message “Jo Khelega, Woh Khilega” (Those who play will flourish) and urged citizens to “Always Cheer for Bharat.” He said sports have the power to unite the nation and inspire millions of young Indians to pursue excellence.
The athletes expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s encouragement and shared their experiences from the Games. The interaction featured medal winners from disciplines including boxing, athletics, judo, para-athletics and wrestling, with several athletes describing the meeting as a motivating experience ahead of future international competitions.
The meeting comes just days after India wrapped up a successful Commonwealth Games campaign in Glasgow, with the government reiterating its commitment to strengthening the country’s sporting ecosystem through initiatives such as Khelo India and the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS).
