Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday held a bilateral meeting and signed two important MoUs, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit at Qingdao, China.
PM Modi in a tweet after meeting President Xi said, “Met this year’s SCO host, President Xi Jinping, this evening. We had detailed discussions on bilateral and global issues. Our talks will add further vigour to the India-China friendship.”
According to signed MoUs, China has agreed to Share hydrological information of Brahmaputra river to India which was stopped after the 73-day long stand-off between Chinese and Indian troops at Dokalam over Chinese military’s plans to build a road close to India’s Chicken Neck corridor connecting North-Eastern states.
Also the 2006 protocol on phytosanitary requirements for exporting rice from India to China has been amended to include the export of non-Basmati varieties of rice from India.
The SCO Summit is scheduled to take place on Sunday, with talks expected to focus on terrorism and security.
After his bilateral meeting with President XI, PM Modi met Uzbekistan President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, PM Modi in his tweet said, “Ties between our nations have their roots in history. We reviewed the full range of the India-Uzbekistan friendship, especially ways to boost economic and cultural cooperation,” he added. “We talked about key sectors of bilateral cooperation. India and Tajikistan are working together in areas such as security, technology and energy. Today’s meeting also focused on ways to further enhance connectivity.” Modi tweeted.
