Patidar leader Hardik Patel joins Congress

Patidar leader Hardik Patel on Tuesday joined the Congress in the presence of Rahul Gandhi during the party’s Working Committee meet in Ahmedabad.

Hardik shot to fame by leading a reservation stir in Gujarat.

Patel had last week indicated that he wants to contest the Lok Sabha election from Gujarat’s Jamnagar constituency.

The Jamnagar Lok Sabha seat is currently represented by BJP’s Poonamben Maadam.

The 25-year-old leader had risen to prominence when he led an agitation by the Patidar community in 2015, demanding the reservation benefit for the community in government jobs and education.

The Congress is eyeing on Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
