More than 50 persons were injured, four of them critically, during clashes with the security forces near an encounter site at village Tazipora in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday, reports in local press said.

The clashes broke out  after the militants holed up in a house were cordoned off by the security forces.

As has become now routine, villagers came out in droves and headed towards the village, throwing stones and trying to disrupt the anti militancy operation.

In response, the security forces used pellets, teargas shells and live ammunition to disperse the protesters.

The injured have been rushed to various healthcare institutions for the treatment, four of them to a tertiary care hospital in Srinagar for the advanced treatment.

Meanwhile, the search operation in the area is still under way.
