One CRPF commando killed in IED blast in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma

An assistant commandant was killed and 10 personnel of the CRPF’s CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) unit were injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast triggered by Naxals in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, officials said on Sunday.

The incident took place around 9 pm on Saturday when a team of security forces were on an operation in a forest area when they stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device allegedly placed by Naxals.

Nitin Bhalerao was seriously injured and succumbed to his injuries suffered in the blast.

“Ten personnel got injured in the blast out of which eight injured personnel were heli-lifted to Raipur in the midnight. Two injured are getting treatment at CRPF Hospital, Chintalnar,” sources said.

CRPF in a tweet said, “We salute the valour & steadfast devotion to duty of Shri Nitin Purushottam Bhalerao, Assistant Commandant of #206Bn @CoBRASECTORHQ who made the supreme sacrifice while valiantly fighting the Maoists in Sukma, Chhattisgarh. We stand with the family of our Braveheart.”
