Five members of a family were killed while two others seriously wounded on Tuesday when a car carrying them plunged into a canal in Odisha’s Puri district.
According to the reports, the incident took place between Rua and Bhailapur on the Nirakarpur-Puri road.
The family was proceeding to Puri from Patrapur area in Ganjam district when the vehicle skidded off a road at Bhailipur area and slipped into the canal, police said.
Two children and a woman were among those killed and the injured were rushed to Chandanpur hospital.
Local people launched a rescue operation after the accident and pulled out the victims from the car.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the death of people and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of the kin of the victims.
