Number of cases infected with new coronavirus strain rises to 96 in India

The number of people who have been infected with the new strain of coronavirus has risen to 96, the Health Ministry said on Monday.

On Sunday, not a single new case of Coronavirus strain was reported. Till Saturday, the number of such people was 90.

All of them have been kept in single room isolation in designated Health Care facilities by respective State Governments.

Their close contacts have also been put under quarantine. Comprehensive contact tracing has been initiated for co-travellers, family contacts and others.

The situation is under careful watch and regular advice is being provided to the States for enhanced surveillance, containment, testing & dispatch of samples to INSACOG labs, it said.

16,311 fresh cases of the coronavirus and 161 deaths reported in the past 24 hours in India , taking the tally to 1,04,66,595. The death toll rose to 1,51,160, 

Of the total cases, 1,00,92,909 have been cured/discharged. There are 2,22,526 active cases of COVID-19 in India.

The new UK variant of coronavirus has been reported by several countries, including Denmark, the Netherlands, Australia, Italy, Sweden, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Japan, Lebanon and Singapore.
