The four death row convicts in 2012 Nirbhaya case will be hanged at 5.30 am on March 20, a Delhi court ordered on Thursday.
This is the fourth death warrant issued by the court in the case. The most recent date set by court for their execution was March 3.
The death warrant was issued a day after President Ram Nath Kovind rejected the mercy petition of one of the convicts Pawan Gupta.
With the President’s rejection, all the convicts had exhausted their legal options for relief from the death sentence.
The Tihar Jail authorities yesterday filed a plea for issuing a fresh death warrant to the four convicts – Vinay Sharma, Akshay Thakur, Mukesh Singh and Pawan Gupta.
All four men were convicted and sentenced to death for raping a 23-year-old paramedic student in a moving bus in the national capital on the intervening night of December 16-17, 2012.
She passed away at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore while undergoing the treatment.
