Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday welcomed the New Year, saying his heart is with the farmers and labourers who are fighting ‘unjust forces’.
“As the New Year begins, we remember those who we lost and thank all those who protect and sacrifice for us. My heart is with the farmers and labourers fighting unjust forces with dignity and honour. Happy New Year to all,” Rahul tweeted.
The former Congress President has been slamming the Central Government on several occasions on the issue of farmers and labourers.
On December 24, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi along with other party leaders met President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Rahul said he told the President that these farm laws are anti-farmer and the country has seen that farmers have stood up against these laws.
After the meeting, Rahul in his sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “these farmers are not going to go back home until these farm laws are repealed.”
Several farmers have been protesting since November 26, against the new farm laws brought by the government.
There have been several rounds of talks between the government and farmers’ representatives. These have remained inconclusive so far and another round of meeting between them will take place on January 4.
