The Western and Central Railway have decided to resume selected Mumbai suburban services over main line and harbour line from Monday. These special suburban services will only for ‘essential staff identified by the state government’ not for general public.
“Western Railway have decided to resume their selected suburban services over WR w.e.f. Monday, 15th June, 2020 with defined protocol & SOP, only for movement of essential staff as identified by the State Government,” Western Railway tweeted.
“Selected suburban services resumed today mrng, over Western & Central Railway for essential staff of State Government only. All Booking Offices Opened at all stopping stations. These special suburban services will not be available for general passengers/public,” Western Railway added.
The trains will run from 5.30 am to 11.30 pm with interval of approximately 15 minutes.
It said approximately 1.25 lakh essential staff as identified by state government are expected to travel by these trains.
In view of the social distancing guidelines, unlike its seating capacity to accommodate about 1200 persons, only 700 people will be allowed to board a train.
Railways, as well as the state government, will ensure multiple rounds of checking to ensure only essential staff as identified by the state government, should board these trains.
Maharashtra is the worst affected state in the country with 1,04,568 COVID-19 cases and 3,830 deaths.
