West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh on Saturday said that Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has the best chance to become the first prime minister from Bengal.
Ghosh made the remarks while extending birthday wishes to Banerjee on her 64th birthday, Ghosh said he prayed her good health and success in life “because the fate of our state depends on her success”.
“We want her to be fit so that she can work well. Mamata Banerjee needs to remain fit because if there is any Bengali who has the chance to be the Prime Minister, then she is the one,” he said.
When asked if anyone from BJP’s Bengal unit had the chance to be the Prime Minister, Ghosh said that Mamata Banerjee was ahead in the race. She would be the first choice if someone from Bengal is selected.
Ghosh further said, “we can surely have one from Bengal after her. We could not have Jyoti Basu as the first Bengali prime minister as his party did not allow him to be.”
“We had Pranab Mukherjee as the first Bengali to become President so now it is time to have a Bengali as Prime Minister,” Ghosh added.
