Maharashtra Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad has tested COVID-19 positive, official sources said on Friday.
Awhad, along with 15 of his family members had been in home quarantine for more than a week after one of his security personnel tested positive for coronavirus.
The Minister had taken a COVID-19 test earlier on April 13 but had tested negative.
It is suspected that Awhad came in contact with the virus after meeting a police officer earlier this month, who later tested positive.
The minister has now been admitted to a hospital and his treatment has begun, sources said.
Maharashtra has highest COVID-19 cases – 6,430 with 283 fatalities.
