India’s COVID-19 cases rise to 23,077, Death toll at 718

Coronavirus cases in India rose to 23,077 with 718 deaths. There are 17,610 active cases while 4,748 have been cured/discharged, the Health Ministry said on Friday.

Maharashtra has highest COVID-19 cases – 6,430, followed by Gujarat – 2,624, Delhi – 2,376, Rajasthan – 1,964, Madhya Pradesh – 1,699 and Tamil Nadu – 1,683.

The Indian government on Thursday said that the rise in coronavirus cases in the country has been more or less linear, not exponential.

“With the promulgation of the Ordinance to amend the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, no person shall indulge in any act of violence against healthcare professionals or cause any damage to any property. If found guilty, the person can be punished with a fine or a jail term,” the Health Ministry said.

In United States, the novel coronavirus has killed nearly 50,000 people and infected more than 8,50,000.
