The Congress on Thursday fielded Ajay Rai against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi, putting an end to weeks of speculation that party may field Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh for Lok Sabha Polls.
The Congress had fielded Rai against PM Modi in 2014 Lok Sabha elections too. He ended up in the third position behind PM Modi and Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP)s chief Arvind Kejriwal.
The party has also fielded Madhusudan Tiwari from Gorakhpur against BJP’s actor-turned-politician Ravi Kishan.
“Congress Central Election Committee announces the next list of candidates for the ensuing elections to the Lok Sabha from Uttar Pradesh,” Congress party tweeted.
