A militant was arrested by police on Sunday night in Gandhi Nagar area of Jammu and recovered eight grenades from him.
As per the reports, police acting on intelligence inputs intercepted a bus in Gandhi Nagar area late Sunday night and arrested a youth who was carrying eight hand grenades.
According to an officer, the militant arrested was identified as Arfan Wani, an occupant of Awantipora in Pulwama district of south Kashmir. Police had recovered eight live hand grenades and Rs 60,000 in cash from his possession.
Security agencies and police are alert in the wake of intelligence inputs that the Kashmiri militants plot to carry out terror strikes in Jammu and New Delhi on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15.
A high alert has been sounded in Jammu after the arrest. The police said the arrested militant was being put through continued interrogation to get details about the plans and his contacts in Jammu and its outskirts.
