Jodhpur District Committee rejects Asaram Bapu’s plea for 20-days parole

Jodhpur District Parole Committee on November 1 rejected self-styled godman Asaram Bapu’s plea for 20-days parole. He is currently serving life term after being convicted in a rape case.

Earlier also Asaram had moved a mercy plea before Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh, seeking dilution of his life imprisonment.

In April, Jodhpur Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Court sentenced him to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of raping a minor girl in Manai village near Jodhpur on August 15, 2013.

Along with Asaram, the court had also sentenced two other accused, Shilpi and Sharad, to 20 years each in jail in connection with the same case.

He was found guilty under various other charges, including sections 370(4) (trafficking), 342 (wrongful confinement), 354A (outraging modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation), 109, 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, and some sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act
