The Delhi Police on Monday filed a chargesheet against former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar and others in a sedition case lodged in 2016.
The Delhi Police also charged former students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya for allegedly shouting anti-India slogans during an event organised at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus in February 2016 to commemorate the hanging of Afzal Guru, the mastermind of Parliament-attack.
The other students mentioned in the charge sheet are Jammu and Kashmir residents – Aquib Hussain, Mujeeb Hussain, Muneeb Hussain, Umar Gul, Rayees Rasool, Basharat Ali and Khalid Bashir Bhat.
According to the sources, Metropolitan Magistrate Sumit Anand put up the chargesheet for consideration before a competent court on Tuesday.
A protest was held in JNU on February 9, 2016, against death sentence given to Afzal Guru during which anti-national slogans were raised.
