The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday issued a notification banning Jammu and Kashmir based Jamaat-e-Islami separatist group under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
A notification on the ban was issued by MHA after a high-level meeting on security, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The step was taken in view of Jamaat being in touch with militant outfits and supporting extremism and militancy in the state.
Several Jamaat leaders, including its chief, were arrested a few days ago in nocturnal raids across Kashmir.
