Jammu and Kashmir: Counting for municipal polls begins

The counting of recently concluded municipal polls of Jammu and Kashmir for 52 civic bodies began on Saturday.

According to the poll officials the counting started in the morning and all the results will be declared later in the day.

The counting is being held at the respective district headquarters and all arrangements are in place, an official said.

For Srinagar the counting is being held at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) and for Jammu municipal corporation, it is being held at the Government Polytechnic College.

The polling was held amid tight security arrangements in four phases which started on October 8 and ended on October 16.

The Municipal elections took place in the state after a gap of 13 years.

However, the two key parties in the state, the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), had abstained from the elections over the contentious issue of Article 35A.
