Jammu and Kashmir: Army soldier martyred, 4 terrorists killed in Shopian encounter

A soldier was martyred and four terrorists were killed in a fierce encounter at a village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian on Tuesday, the police said.

A joint team of the Army, the local police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were carrying out searches at Nadigam village, when the terrorists opened fire at them.

The security forces had launched a search operation after receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

Jammu and Kashmir police tweeted, “encounter has started in #Shopian. Information is preliminary in nature.”

The operation is currently underway.

In another incident Indian and Pakistani armies exchanged heavy fire on the Line of Control (LoC) on Tuesday in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, Officials said.

As per the reports, Pakistani Army violated ceasefire around 7 am using small arms, automatics and mortar shells.

All schools have been closed in several areas of Poonch sector following the ceasefire violation by Pakistan.

No Causalities have been reported so far.
