Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday attended the popular bull taming sport Jallikattu in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
Rahul Gandhi earlier in a tweet said, “Coming to celebrate Pongal with you in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.”
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee TNCC chief KS Alagiri and DMK Youth Wing Secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin also witnessed the ‘Jallikattu’ event along with Rahul.
While addressing the people at the event, Rahul said it was a lovely experience to see Tamil culture and history in action.
“I am happy to see the Jallikattu is being organised in a systematic and safe way so that both the bull and youngsters are safe and everybody is being taken care of,” the former Congress President said.
Rahul further said he had received tremendous love and affection from the people of Tamil Nadu. “It is my duty to stand with the people of Tamil Nadu and protect their history, culture and their language,” he added.
He also wished the people a ‘Happy Pongal’.
