India’s COVID-19 cases near 7 lakh-mark; Death toll at 19,693

The number of coronavirus cases in India have risen to 6,97,413 as it recorded 24,248 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. A total of 19,693 coronavirus patients have lost their lives, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday.

There are 2,53,287 active cases while 4,24,432 have been cured/discharged, according to Health Ministry data.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in the country. The total number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 2,06,619 with 8,822 fatalities.

Tamil Nadu has the second highest COVID-19 cases – 1,11,151 with 1,510 deaths followed by Delhi – 99,444 and 3,067 deaths, Gujarat – 36,037 cases and 1,943 fatalities and Uttar Pradesh – 27,707 cases and 785 deaths.

A total of 99,69,662 samples have been tested so far of which 1,80,596 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.
