India records 22,771 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours, 6.48 lakh total cases; Death toll at 18,655

The number of coronavirus cases in India have risen to 6,48,315 as it recorded 22,771 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. A total of 18,655 coronavirus patients have lost their lives, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday.

There are 2,35,433 active cases while 3,94,226 have been cured/discharged, according to Health Ministry data.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in the country. The total number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 1,92,990 with 8,376 fatalities.

Tamil Nadu has the second highest COVID-19 cases – 1,02,721 with 1,385 deaths followed by Delhi – 94,695 and 2,923 deaths, Gujarat – 34,600 cases and 1,904 fatalities and Uttar Pradesh – 25,797 cases and 749 deaths.

A total of 95,40,132 samples have been tested so far of which 2,42,383 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.
