Income Tax Department officials raids at Sonu Sood’s office in Mumbai and some other places on Wednesday. Income tax officers spent 20 hours searching six locations linked to the actor.
During the Covid-19 pandemic last year, when thousands migrants were left without jobs or shelter and stranded far from home he helped them and later he been praised as a “messiah of migrants” for his philanthropy.
According to the sources, income tax department is investigating Sonu Sood’s property deal with a Lucknow-based real estate company.
The raids come days after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal declared him brand ambassador for a “Desh ka Mentors” programme for school students.
Sonu Sood arranged buses, trains and even flights to take hundreds of migrants to their home state. He also came forward during the second wave earlier this year, organising oxygen for Covid patients.
