In tragic incident, 45 people, including 35 students of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee who had gone for trekking in Himachal Pradesh’s mountainous Lahaul and Spiti district have been reported missing after heavy snowfall in the region.
According to the sources, the group had gone for a trek to the Hampta pass and were supposed to return to Manali However, they have not returned till now and also fail to establish any contact.
Himachal Pradesh has seen heavy rain in many areas. Higher altitude regions of the state have also witnessed heavy snowfall.
At least five people died, and many were injured in separate incidents as heavy rain pounded Kullu, Kangra and Chamba districts on Monday, the officials said.
Meanwhile, schools in various districts of Himachal Pradesh have been directed to remain closed on Tuesday as a precautionary measure.
