Hathras gangrape victim succumbs to injuries in Delhi hospital

The 19-year-old Dalit woman, who was gang-raped in Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) Hathras, died on Tuesday at Safdarjung hospital in Delhi. She was referred from Aligarg’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical college to Delhi a day earlier.

The Dalit woman was left paralysed with severe spinal cord injury after she was brutally gang-raped by four men in her village on September 14.

All four accused have been arrested for gang rape, attempt to murder and sections of the SC/ST Act. According to police, section 302 (murder) of IPC will be added in the FIR.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slammed the UP government and said that law and order in the state have deteriorated to a great extent.

“A Dalit girl who was brutalised in Hathras succumbed at Safdarjung Hospital. For two weeks she struggled with life and death in hospitals. Incidents of rape in Hathras, Shahjahanpur and Gorakhpur have rocked the state,” Priyanka said in a tweet.

“Law and order in UP have deteriorated to a great extent. There is nothing for the safety of women. The criminals are committing the open crime. The killers of this girl should be punished severely. Yogi Adityanath You are responsible for the safety of women in UP,” Congress leader said in another tweet.
