Hathras case: TMC delegation heading to meet Victim’s family stopped by UP Police

Trinamool Congress (TMC) delegation including MP Derek O’Brien, who were heading to meet the family of the Hathras Victim on Friday were stopped by the Uttar Pradesh police at the district border.

The delegation included Derek O’Brien, Dr Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Pratima Mondal and former MP Mamata Thakur.

Mamata Banerjee’s party slammed Yogi government and UP police for stopping the MPs and for manhandling them, in a tweet party said, “Is this a #democracy? @AITCofficial MPs have been heckled, female MPs being manhandled, @derekobrienmp being pinned down on the floor when all they wanted to do was meet the family of #manisha_valmiki! This is absolutely unacceptable & strict action must be taken against @Uppolice”

On October 1, Mamata Banerjee condemned the incident at Hathras and expressed condolences to the victim’s family. In a tweet, she said, “Have no words to condemn the barbaric & shameful incident at Hathras involving a young Dalit girl. My deepest condolences to the family. More shameful is the forceful cremation without the family’s presence or consent, exposing those who use slogans & lofty promises for votes.”

According to officials, local authorities have imposed section 144 to curb protests in the area.
